Basket Saddles

In Victorian times the basket saddle was a popular way to introduce children, from babes in arms, to horse riding. Over time the basket saddle makers passed on and the saddles became difficult to find, as very few craftsmen had the skills to make them.

We are fortunate to be able to offer the basket saddle in our modern times. The design allows the child to experience riding with the familiarity of being seated in a chair. The back of the chair provides support, with a belt around the waist with a quick release buckle for safety.

The easy to fit saddles are made by hand in England from reed with wire around the sides. The wire frame gives the flexibility to fit all ponies, whether narrow or broad.

The basket saddle comes complete with saddlecloth, padded seat, back rest and web girth.

Price £195 plus £15.00 for post, packing and insurance.

The horse can cover a distance of up to 6 miles for the day, i.e. from house to the church then on to the reception.
